We are looking for our next team member to join us in a Director of Accounting role. This is a very hands-on position that relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish the goals of both the department and the Company.
We are looking for a finance or accounting professional who has at least 10 years of experience in Real Estate Accounting. Our ideal candidate has a CPA. Familiarity with a variety of real estate accounting concepts, practices, and procedures is required.

The Director of Accounting reports to the CFO and together they work with the accounting team to ensure that the financial goals of the Company are met or exceeded.

Assist in the Company and department strategic planning process including the development of key performance indicators and monitoring their results
Develop the accounting team so that they are not only self-sufficient but also work to support each other in common goals
Assist CFO to develop a culture of thinking outside the box to develop ideas that will improve processes and outcomes for the department and Company
Provide the accounting team with process standardization and expectations to ensure the timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of reporting for clients, investors, partners, lenders and governmental agencies
Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
Perform cash management duties including recommending capital calls and distributions, monitoring accounts receivable and payable and processing wire transfers and signing checks
Review annual property and corporate budgets and provide summary information to CFO and Partners for final approval
Prepare annual compensation, insurance and information technology budgets
Review real estate closing and financing documents to make appropriate accounting entries
Consult with Development Team on construction projects and prepare loan draw packages
Financial Reporting and Loan Compliance
Perform detailed review of property financial statements semi-annually and corporate financial statements monthly
Assist Controller with review of CAM and tax reconciliations and support staff, as necessary
Assist staff with Yardi Lease set up questions, as necessary
Research GAAP and tax treatments for various real estate transactions
Prepare annual audit reports and assist Controller with audit fieldwork
Coordinate preparation of tax work papers and perform initial review of returns from outside preparers
Review debt service coverage ratio analysis reporting and ensure lender reporting requirement compliance
Develop and maintain financial and debt reporting via internal dashboard or similar reference tool
Assist CFO with due diligence requirements for financing transactions and acquisitions
Develop and maintain controls within Yardi to ensure accuracy of accounting data and financial records
Ensure that new bank accounts, general ledger accounts, properties, entities and users are set up appropriately in the Yardi software
Create and implement process improvements utilizing Yardi and other software packages
Assist CFO to coordinate interface with outside IT consultant to ensure system integrity and reliability
Coordinate annual health insurance renewals with Human Resources consultant
Negotiate annual property/liability insurance renewals and calculate premium allocations
Oversee annual workers’ compensation insurance audit with carrier
Participate in developing and maintaining an overall risk management plan for the Company
Other General Matters
Act as an advocate for the Company within the local community
Be a mentor to team members in developing their technical and leadership skills
Actively participate in management meetings and lead monthly collections meetings
Any other duties as assigned by the CFO or the Managing Partners
