Essential Functions: The Senior Director for Business Affairs is a member of the senior leadership team for Finance & Administration at the School of Medicine and reports to the Vice Dean of Finance and Administration. The position will oversee the finance and business operations for the School of Medicine, including: budget planning, development, implementation, analysis, transaction reconciliation and reporting. The position will advise on resource allocation and financial planning; exercise initiative and independent oversight; collaborate with the Office of the Provost, Finance and Business Operations (FBO) and the Office of Budget Planning and Analysis (OBPA) to facilitate business and financial information that advances the Strategic Plan of the University and the School of Medicine; and ensure that the executive leadership, faculty, and staff receive outstanding support in a manner compliant with University policies and procedures.Essential FunctionsProvide leadership and consultation to ensure preparation, monitoring and review of all budget components. Participate in strategic planning ,execute financial forecast, collaborate with the School's leadership to improve the financial control environment, improve business processes, and reduce costs. Collaborate with the Office of Finance & Treasury on resource allocation and develop short/long-range divisional fiscal plans. Support strategic planning efforts. Collaborate with embedded financial and departmental personnel and Budget Office staff. Work with the Dean, Associate Deans and Chairs to develop strategies to maximize budget efficiencies and make recommendations to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of administrative support activities. Direct financial oversight of graduate medical education (GME) dual and sole sponsored residency programs; establish budget, ensure receipt of appropriate funding, monitor budget performance and reconcile accounts. Manage the financial relationship with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and provide oversite on annual data requests from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), as well as manage any financially related requests for accreditation.Lead the annual School of Medicine budget process. Collaborate with campus units to prepare an annual consolidated "all funds" university budget and associated budget-to-actual reporting. Develop financial dashboards and key performance indicators; develop detailed statistical analyses and reports outlining budget activities. Establish operational objectives and assignments; manage business operation and administration of the annual budget cycle. Prepare projections or forecasts of expenses in comparison to budget categories/line items. Maintain internal control systems to assure integrity of financial transactions.Ensure effective monitoring and analysis of expenses on a monthly basis and identification of variances and trends. Ensure budget revisions, employee personnel action requests and other budget items are approved in a timely manner.Oversight of annual year-end process and annual financial reporting for AAMC. Ensure timely processing of Journal Vouchers for budget and actual expenditures. Develop and produce quarterly and annual financial reports.Manage, authorize and oversee all personnel and payroll related processes and transactions (including Electronic Personnel Action Forms, EPAF) in a timely manner and ensure adherence to approved budget lines. Reconcile Human Resource System data to Financial Management System data. Manage the work of direct reports to ensure proper alignment of work and effort to advance the school and university strategic goals. Make hiring decisions, provide coaching, training and mentoring, manage performance, develop and ensure succession planning within area of responsibility.Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education Master's degree: Minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a preferred concentration in Accounting, Business, or Health Administration.Experience Expert: Minimum of seven years of financial, budget and supervisory experience, preferably in higher education, health care or a large/complex organization.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesBusiness Acumen: Knowledge of supporting business operations in a School/College/Division or an equivalent size non-university organization.
