The Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning seeks a senior business analyst with advanced analytical skills, sound business acumen and strong communication skills to join our finance team and serve as a key partner to the chief financial officer. In this role, you will transform complex data into comprehensible information through statistical analysis, verification, and visual/contextual reporting to make actionable recommendations on a wide variety of business operations. You are a strategic thinker with sound experience building complex financial models and what-if scenarios for decision making.
Determine data sources, research methodologies, manage project datasets and what-if scenarios, analyze and interpret results, and write or assist in the drafting of ad hoc and annual reports. Build financial models within the various databases and/or tools.
Extract data using Business Objects; Budget, Planning and Consolidation software (BPC); and other tools. Interpret financial, HR, student and donor data, analyze results using best practice statistical techniques. Identify and synthesize meaning from trends and patterns of complex data sets. Understand the principles behind encoding data and communicating/illustrating complex financial information in easy to understand terms that are concise and straight-forward for decision-makers.
Provide detailed reporting and analyses of general fund, gift, research, and discretionary funds including the implementation and oversight of fiscal policies and procedures. Provide projections of the unit operating budget, monitor and establish controls to maintain budget limitations. Maintain the scheduling of Business Object reports, updating recipients and report criteria.
Partner with the CFO and financial manager to prepare budgets for submission to the provost, including financial analysis and financial modeling for a wide variety of initiatives such as the creation of new nontraditional degree programs or different financial aid allocation approaches.
Proactively explore opportunities to enhance revenue generation through an analytical and entrepreneurial mindset focused on innovation and value creation.
Provide direct oversight of $108M endowment and scholarship funds. Reconcile financial aid awards to comply with donor intent criteria.
Lead or participate in strategic assessments to identify current/emerging business issues and contribute to defining high impact business intelligence solutions with a focus on quantitative methods, modeling and analytical techniques.
Identify and lead change management processes for new/improved business processes/business intelligence tools and resources. Manage cross-functional unit projects and/or teams which include project planning, task management, status reporting, etc.
Provide back up to the financial manager and other team members as needed with financial operations including Concur expense reimbursements, reconciliations, timekeeping, internal controls and other accounting functions.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field
Extensive experience and competence using, Excel, Business Objects, and visualization/analytics
3-5 years experience in creating and monitoring complex budgets as well as performing financial analysis, forecasting and financial modeling in a data warehouse environment
Proficiency in data visualization techniques for reporting purposes, developing dashboards and reports. Demonstrated proficiency in query and report writing tools
Direct involvement in process improvement using analytical and problem solving skills

Master’s degree in business, applied economics or a related field
Extensive experience with MPathways and MReports
Experience in various subject areas such as human resources, procurement, sponsored research in a higher-ed environment
Experience managing gifts and endowments
Experience using Tableau, BPC or creating infographics
