The School of Education (SOE) is seeking an experienced individual to join their research finance team. This individual will primarily be responsible for sponsored project post-award research processes and financial activity and will report to the Director of Financial Planning and Management.

Interpret regulations and guidelines of multiple programs funding with complex and broad guidelines for spending.
Work as part of the SOE Finance team and SOE Research team, primarily in the post-award sponsored research financial administration phase.
Ensure compliance with sponsor terms, University policies/procedures and federal regulations.
Monitor financial transactions for sponsored research accounts on a monthly schedule.
Investigate and correct errors in accordance with School, University and Government guidelines. Follow up on outstanding issues and respond to questions as necessary.
Prepare financial reports and distribute to Principal Investigators.
Act as liaison with Financial Operations to resolve and process Sponsored Project final financial report analysis and closeout.
Conduct Uniform Guidance (UG) Monitored Costs review and process corrections on federal sponsored projects.
Monitor and approve Human Subject Incentives Program (HSIP) requests.
Review sponsored project budget allocations based on Project Award notices.
Process budget re-allocations when necessary.
Assist project directors with financial planning on sponsored projects.
Coordinate with the SOE Human Resources office for appointment changes related to the sponsored project accounts.
Work with the Office of Contract Administration to establish and close out project sub-contracts.
Calculate and process faculty research incentive allocation annually.
Review and approve Concur expense reports, non-PO vouchers and student & non-UM employee travel expense reports for accuracy and compliance.
Procure goods and services required for School operations from various sources such as University Marketsite and prime vendors using MPathways procurement system.
Interact and work closely with University Procurement offices on service agreement projects and other situations when appropriate.
Identify, address and resolve accounting problems in collaboration with the Director of Financial Planning and Management as well as the Shared Services Center.
Pre-award 15%
Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field
5+ years of experience in a sponsored research-based financial role
Ability to contribute to the School’s diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity (dije) initiatives
Understanding of the University of Michigan sponsored research operations and financial and procurement policies and procedures.
Candidates must display strong customer service skills, excellent organizational and problem solving skills with a demonstrated ability to set priorities
Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines, and have a strong attention to detail.
