Purpose
We are looking for an energetic, positive, and forward-thinking individual with significant experience and technical research administration competencies to join our team with a primary focus on supporting research at the School of Social Work. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Research and Finance, you will coordinate both pre-award and post-award research and financial tasks associated with grant and contract administration. We have a varied research and sponsored activity portfolio, from a variety of government agencies, foundations, and philanthropists. We will invest in your education, training, career development and certification in the area of research administration. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are exempt.
Title IV-E Management (~75% effort):
As the Single Administrative Point of Contact (SAPOC) supporting this newly established Title IV-E project as a primary portion of your FTE, you will oversee the following:
Monitor project budget activity to ensure project is continuing as proposed with an emphasis on reconciliation and fiscal review while following appropriate accounting protocol and procedures
Approve expenditures within prescribed limits according to Uniform Guidance, University, and sponsor guidelines and resolve issues.
Arrange and work collaboratively with the active subcontracting institutions for post-award management. This might include items such as supplemental funds, scope of work or budgetary changes needed from each.
Regular communication with faculty and other staff members within SSW and UM to ensure proper management and continued success with this program.
Prepare and submit subsequent FY funding applications as this is funded each year with the MDHHS Master Agreement.
Research Administration Pre-Award/Post-Award Duties (~25% effort)
In addition to supporting Title IV-E, you will also oversee a small portfolio of faculty handling both pre and post-award support. Activities you would oversee include:
Assistant faculty to develop budgets and budget justifications following Sponsor, School and University Policies
Independently procure information about grant requirements for submissions from the University and/or the funding agency
Review and follow proposal submission guidelines
Prepare and maintain documents for submission packages and other communications
Assist and advise regarding University and School research policies including: project budget development, accounting principles, sponsor regulations, sponsor selection, and contract terms and conditions.

Approve expenditures within prescribed limits according to Uniform Guidance, University, and sponsor guidelines and resolve issues.
Arrange and process multiple requests affecting a project, such as time extensions, supplemental funds, subcontracts, subprojects, and changes in the scope of work or budgetary changes.
Regular communication with faculty and other staff members to ensure smooth transitions of project lifecycles

Possess a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years work experience in research administration
Be a certified research administrator (CRA)
Be able to work well within with a team while also being self-motivated, flexible, reliable, and detail-oriented
Familiarity with University of Michigan research administration systems
Be a thinker and a problem solver with a positive attitude
Have stellar interpersonal/organizational skills, excellent written/verbal communication skills
Have the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment, and the ability to maintain and respect confidentiality
Have solid computer skills and demonstrated experience in organizing and maintaining digital files and documentation
Be able to proactively anticipate work requirements based on prior requests and instructions
