Job Summary:
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive support for accounting tasks, including payroll, accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), and potentially general ledger accounting, with a primary focus on payroll. This role also assists with high-level business processes such as budgeting and financial analysis.
Essential Functions:
1. Daily Accounting Support: Assists with day to day accounting functions of Finance Department where needed. Focuses on payroll, A/P, and A/R.
2. Payroll Backup: Serves as backup for processing biweekly payroll, including timesheet imports, reporting, and journal entry creation. Independently processes payroll at least twice a year to remain current with practices.
3. Accounts Payable Backup: Serves as backup for A/P functions. Periodically processes manual checks to maintain proficiency and accuracy in handling payments.
4. Accounts Receivable Processing: Responsible for payment processing for non-student A/R, including daily reconciliation of receipts.
5. Budget and Forecasting: Participates in budget and forecasting process, with concentration on payroll.
6. Special Projects: Completes special projects that may require investigation, research, analysis, documentation, and reporting.
7. To provide the best service to our external and internal customers, all positions at Lake Michigan College require regular and predicable on-site attendance as an essential job functions. Accountabilities:
Under limited supervision of Executive Director of Finance, this role ensures complete and accurate accounting and reporting of payroll, A/P and A/R transactions. Independently completes special projects, as assigned. Works collaboratively with employees, customers, and vendors.
Job Specifications:
Bachelors degree in accounting required. Two or more years of experience in a position directly performing accounting work required. Knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft products required. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain confidentiality.
Grade: Salary Range: $45,231 - $51,879
